Another savvy priced red this sweet, jammy, oaky offering is another all rounder, great alone or with hard cheese.

89 Points - It is getting very hard to find New Zealand sauvignon blanc at cut-to-the-bone prices, so the bargains are here in lean, crisp South Africa.

Chenin Blanc 2013
South Africa's winemakers have woken up to the potential of the grape that many of them call Steen, and wines such as this one have a purity and elegance unknown in their predecessors.

Shiraz 2013
This is one of the best value reds you can buy just now. A South African Shiraz which, just like Côte-Rôtie, has some Viognier added for fragrance and some Mourvèdre for extra spice. Oaked and lush but far from jammy. A terrific find.

Chenin Blanc 2013
I seem to have an affinity for the wines from Bellows Rock. Very fine, very attractive, very good. Not particularly varietal in that the fruit is not overtly wet woolish! but its all clean fresh and tingly. Lump it in with the red Bellow's Rock Shiraz and you can make it a real tasty treat. Tremendous wine.

Shiraz 2012
This is a big, brooding Shiraz with a soft heart – thanks to the ten or so per cent of Mourvèdre added. Lovely nose of ripe plums and peppery spice lead into a palate that has slightly sweet, red fruit flavours and gentle tannins, with American oak giving it a hint of vanilla spice. A drop of Viognier rounds off the corners and adds a subtle perfumed aroma.

Shiraz 2011: Excellent value
Ernie Whalley says: A whiff of allspice announces classical shiraz with a weight of greengage, plum and brambly fruit. Excellent value and the alcohol level is sensibly constrained to 14.0%.
Caroline Byrne says: Floral nose with notes of black pepper. Plenty of rich fruit and a long finish.

Chenin Blanc 2012: remarkable complexity
Made from older vines from the Agter-Paarl region and despite the fact that no oak gets near this wine there is a creamy, richness to it and remarkable complexity on the finish. Again a seriously grown-up wine and if you poured this from a big heavy bottle marked €30 you would not be in the least surprised by the quality per euro!

Sensational, I can think of no other wine in the last few years that has come close to this at €9.99. This is proper, grown-up Shiraz; fabulous, sweet, black fruit - fresh not jammy- fine oak from 14 months in barrel and a long beautifully balanced finish. This easily rivals premium Australian Shiraz and with the Aussie dollar the way it is now there is simply no Australian import that can compare.
